The existing campus for Heritage School in Kolkata recently underwent an expansion in its facilities and programme, with the campus being upgraded from an IB school to gaining university status. The design proposal for the extension aimed at restrengthening the existing infrastructure for an increase in the number of students by adding residential accommodations for 1025 students, a 1500 seater auditorium and a 3000 seater amphitheatre to the existing site; and fostering a collaborative environment for students. The idea was to build on the original design which promoted flexible spaces of learning, setting the design of the school apart from the traditional classroom-centric education model.

The newly added structures have been designed to integrate visually with the existing, creating a strong cohesive language for the campus. The site plan focuses on pedestrian activity – by creating well-planned linkages that enhance connectivity, and multiple spaces for social interaction at varying scales. These spaces have been planned in addition to the sports complex for outdoor and indoor sports, and swimming that was added to the campus in an earlier revitalization exercise.
